HepaSphere Microspheres

What is HepaSphere?

HepaSphere are super absorbent polymer hydrogel embolic particles approved by CFDA that can carry chemotherapy drugs.

The HepaSpheare can be easily seen, with numerous drug particles inside the tumor tissue. As HepaSphere conforms to the blood vessel shape, it effectively blocks the tumor’s blood supply, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Additionally, it gradually releases drugs over an extended period in the initial, seventh,istration into the body. This prolonged exposure enhances interaction with tumor cells, leading to comprehensive tumor cell destruction.

Indications

Malignant intraheptic tumors withabundant blood supply;
Breast tumors with abundant blood supply, inclidingaxillary lymoh node metastasis;
Head and neck solid tumors that have a rich blood flow.
Pelvic tumorswith abundant blood supply;
Kidney and adrenal tumors;
Central type llung cancer with rich blood supply and large size (on the right side, and on the left side with a diagrameter of 3cm or more).

Advantages

Using digital subtraction equipment toaccurately to accurately sekect the cathere and deliver it to the target tumor blood supply vessel:
Insert a catheter to deliver drug loaded microspheres into the tumorblood supply vessels, perfectly blockingthem;
The vlocked tumor will be gradually apoptotic due to ischemia;
The drugs in the drug loaded microspeheres arecontinuosly released into the tumor blood supply vessels for 2 weeks, effectively contacting and killing tumor cells;
Tumor undergo apotosis and necrosis after prolonged exposure to chemotherapydrug in a hypoxic-ischemic environment.

HepaSphere Embolization FAQ - Fuda Cancer Hospital

HepaSphere Embolization – FAQs (Fuda Cancer Hospital)

HepaSphere Embolization is an advanced interventional therapy that uses tiny super-absorbent polymer microspheres to block the blood supply to a tumor. These microspheres can also carry chemotherapy drugs, gradually releasing them at the tumor site while cutting off oxygen and nutrients, leading to tumor cell death.
HepaSphere is suitable for treating solid tumors with a rich blood supply, including liver cancer, kidney and adrenal tumors, pelvic and breast cancers, head and neck tumors, and certain lung cancers with abundant vascularization. It can also be used in cases where surgery is not an option.
The procedure is minimally invasive, highly targeted, and provides both embolization and localized chemotherapy delivery. It reduces systemic toxicity, preserves surrounding healthy tissue, offers continuous drug release for up to two weeks, and enhances treatment effectiveness while minimizing side effects.
Using digital subtraction angiography (DSA), a catheter is guided through the blood vessels to reach the arteries supplying the tumor. Drug-loaded HepaSphere microspheres are then injected, blocking the blood flow to the tumor while releasing the chemotherapy drug directly into it over time.
Mild post-embolization symptoms like fever, fatigue, or localized pain may occur but usually resolve within a few days. Most patients recover quickly, with a shorter hospital stay compared to conventional surgery. The minimally invasive nature of the procedure allows for faster healing and repeat treatments if needed.
Unlike systemic chemotherapy that circulates throughout the body, HepaSphere delivers drugs directly to the tumor site. This local delivery increases the drug concentration in the tumor while reducing exposure to healthy organs, significantly minimizing side effects and improving patient comfort.
